All questions (8 questions) Cambridge IELTS 12 Test 1 Writing Task 1: Physical Activity Chart Cambridge IELTS 12 · Test 1 · Task 1 · Bar chart The bar chart compares the percentage of Australian men and women who did regular physical activity in 2010, across six age groups from 15 to 24 up to 65 and over. All figures are percentages of each sex within each age group, and there is only one year, so the task is about comparisons rather than change over time. Cambridge IELTS 12 Test 1 Writing Task 2: Sharing Information Cambridge IELTS 12 · Test 1 · Task 2 · Technology · Discuss both views The question presents two views: that as much information as possible should be shared in scientific research, business and the academic world, and that some information is too important or valuable to be shared freely. Candidates must discuss both views and give their own opinion. Cambridge IELTS 12 Test 2 Writing Task 1: Islip Town Centre Maps Cambridge IELTS 12 · Test 2 · Task 1 · Map / plan The two maps show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now and as it will look after a planned redevelopment. Because the second map shows plans, the changes must be described with future or passive forms such as will be built or is to be replaced. Cambridge IELTS 12 Test 2 Writing Task 2: Young Population Cambridge IELTS 12 · Test 2 · Task 2 · Society · Advantages and disadvantages The question describes countries whose populations contain a relatively large number of young adults compared with older people. Candidates must decide whether the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages and support their answer with reasons and examples. Cambridge IELTS 12 Test 3 Writing Task 1: US Fast Food Bar Chart Cambridge IELTS 12 · Test 3 · Task 1 · Bar chart The bar chart shows how frequently people in the USA ate at fast food restaurants in 2003, 2006 and 2013. Respondents are divided into six frequency categories, from every day to never, and the figures are percentages of people in each year. Cambridge IELTS 12 Test 3 Writing Task 2: High-Speed Rail Cambridge IELTS 12 · Test 3 · Task 2 · Society · Discuss both views The question presents two views on transport spending: that large sums should be spent on new railway lines for very fast trains between cities, and that the money should instead be used to improve existing public transport. Candidates must discuss both views and give their own opinion. Cambridge IELTS 12 Test 4 Writing Task 1: Geothermal Power Plant Cambridge IELTS 12 · Test 4 · Task 1 · Process diagram The diagram shows how a geothermal power plant uses heat from underground hot rocks to generate electricity. It is a man-made process with five numbered stages, from cold water being pumped 4.5 km underground to electricity being produced by a generator and carried away by pylons. Cambridge IELTS 12 Test 4 Writing Task 2: Children's Choices Cambridge IELTS 12 · Test 4 · Task 2 · Society · Discuss both views The question presents two views: that letting children make their own choices about everyday matters such as food, clothes and entertainment will create a society of self-centred individuals, and that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them. Candidates must discuss both views and give their own opinion. Exam questions © Cambridge University Press & Assessment, reproduced for study and commentary.
