IELTS Writing Task 2 Problem and Solution Essays with Model Answers

Problem-solution essays ask for the causes or problems of an issue and the measures that could address it. Every solution should clearly match a problem you described.

How to practise

  • Check whether the question asks for causes, problems or effects; they are not the same.
  • Link each solution to a specific cause or problem.
  • Say who should act (governments, schools, individuals) and how.
  • Avoid vague solutions such as 'the government should do something'.
