The plans illustrate the layout of a college café before it was redesigned and its appearance today.
Overall, the café has been transformed from a canteen with a single serving counter and private staff dining rooms into a more varied food outlet with several specialised serving points. The most significant addition is an outdoor seating area, while the kitchen, toilets and main seating area remain where they were.
Originally, all food and drink was served from one area next to the kitchen in the top left-hand corner. This counter is still in the same position but now offers only hot meals. The two staff dining rooms along the top wall have been replaced by a takeaway food counter and a coffee bar. In addition, a salad bar has been installed along the left-hand wall.
Elsewhere inside, the single bin on the right-hand wall has been replaced by recycling bins, whereas the toilets in the bottom right-hand corner and the large central area of tables and chairs are unchanged. The most striking change, however, is outside: a new door now leads to an outdoor seating area with several tables, which stretches along the bottom of the plan, and a barbecue has been built in the bottom left-hand corner, just outside the salad bar.
